Jackie with one of her babies (well, not HER baby but a baby she delivered)

So when I first got here, I was terrified of the food.  Fish still had scales and eyeballs, chicken still had fat on it, fruit smelt like vegetables, vegetables smelt like fruit, you could only get powdered milk and lettuce was seriously sketchy.  But I have been getting used to it.  The green stuff in this picture is kang-kong (not king-kong, although I am sure king kong would eat something like this) which is a green stalk similar to asparagus.  It is actually delicious.  Very rarely do you find plain white rice in our house.  There are no such things as convenience foods, not even dry cereal (which is ok considering you would have to use warm, powdered milk for it).
Most Philippinos eat with their hands, but we use normal utensils in our house.

I didn't have diet coke for one whole week and it is really hard to find here!!!!  Yesterday on shift I couldn't go on with the rest of my life without it, so I had someone go buy one for me.  And it was delicious.

It is so hot here that I actually don't like holding babies because they always are so hot.  But here is a quick picture of baby James, the first baby I saw delivered while at MMC.  Baby #5 for a 39 year old!

Baby checks!

Cheng-Cheng, the most adorable little girl EVER comes to work with our supervisor, Ate Mayflor.

Mothers, babies, and scrubs.  Pretty much the story of my life right now.

Last night we had a 19 year old come in and have her 4th baby with no family.  Just to put things in perspective, I am 19 and she had her first baby when she was 15.
