-To have a baby at Mercy Maternity Center, it costs anywhere from 280-450 pesos (equivalent to $6-$10), depending on what interventions we chose to use. And still, families struggle to pay for it. A hospital birth would be around $50 (w/o a c-section)
-Our house keeper works for $14 a week, which is very generous.
-Filipino babies are adorable
-Everyday at 4:30, the market gets live fish that were caught that day, and you can take it home (still alive!!!) and feed it to your family for dinner.
-The only reason you would ever have an epidural in the Philippines is if you were going to have a c-section.
-There are no such things as cross walks, pedestrian right of way etc. You just have to go for it.
